In June 2023, the State Board of Education (SBOE) and the Office of the Superintendent of Education (OSSE) adopted revised standards, the first time in 17 years that the District of Columbia has updated the standards of teaching and learning social studies for DC students. Local DC history is now embedded in and/or is applicable to the standards from kindergarten onwards.
